Mukhtasar Bukhari

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made an agreement with the people of Khaybar for half of the produce of crops and fruits, and (whatever grain or fruit was produced there) it used to be divided equally. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to give his noble wives one hundred wasq, that is, eighty (80) wasq of dates and twenty (20) wasq of barley.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not prohibit this (sharecropping), rather he (peace be upon him) said: "If any one of you gives (his land) to his brother free of charge, it is better than taking some rent for it."
