Hadith 1058
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): Some of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went on a journey until they stopped at a tribe from among the Arab tribes. They asked them for hospitality, but they refused to host them. Then the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake, and the people tried every possible remedy, but nothing benefited him. Then someone said, "Go to those people (i.e., the companions), perhaps one of them has something." So they came to them and said, "O people! Our chief has been bitten by a snake. We have tried every remedy, but nothing benefits him. Do any of you have something (to help)?" One of the companions (Abu Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him, himself) said, "Yes, by Allah, I perform ruqyah (spiritual healing), but by Allah, we asked you for hospitality and you did not host us, so I will not perform ruqyah for you until you fix a wage for us." So they agreed on a flock of sheep as their payment. Then one of them (Abu Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him) went and recited (Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin) and blew over him, and immediately the man became healthy, as if his bonds had been released, and he got up and started walking, as if he had no illness. (Abu Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him) said: They gave them the payment they had agreed upon. Then some people said, "Divide it among yourselves," but those who had performed the ruqyah said, "Do not do so until we go to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mention the incident to him, and see what he commands us." So when they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned it to him, he said, "How did you know that Surah Al-Fatihah is used for ruqyah?" Then he said, "You did the right thing. Divide (the payment) and include my share with yours." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smiled.
