Hadith 989
Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib رضي الله عنه and Zaid bin Arqam رضي الله عنه say: We used to trade during the time of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, so we asked the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم about sarf (for example, exchanging rupees for rupees). He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "If it is hand to hand (i.e., cash), then it is permissible, and if it is on credit, then it is not permissible."
