`Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` when we came to Madinah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) established brotherhood between me and Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sa’d bin Rabi’ said (to me), “I am the wealthiest among the Ansar, (therefore) I will give you half of my wealth, and you may choose whichever of my two wives you like; I will divorce her for you, and when her waiting period is over, you may marry her.” (Ibrahim bin Abdur Rahman, the narrator, said) So Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “I do not need this. (Just tell me) is there any market here where trade is conducted?” He replied, “Yes, there is a market called Qainuqa’.” (So) in the morning, Abdur Rahman went to that market and brought back some cheese and ghee. (The narrator) says that after that, he started going daily. After a few days, Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) came (to the service of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and there was a trace of yellow (scent) on his clothes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, “Have you married?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, “To whom?” He replied, “To an Ansari woman.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, “How much dowry did you give her?” He replied, “A gold date-stone’s weight,” or he said, “a gold date-stone.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, “Give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat.”
