Hadith 740
Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Among all the Ansar in Madinah, Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) possessed the most wealth, especially in gardens, and the most beloved of his gardens to him was called Birha’, which was situated opposite the Prophet’s Mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go there and drink from its pleasant water. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the verse (Surah Al-Imran, verse 29) was revealed: “You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love,” Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Allah, the Most Great and Exalted, says: “You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love.” Indeed, the most beloved of my wealth to me is Birha’, and I give it as charity for Allah. I hope for its reward with Allah, so spend it wherever you see fit, O Messenger of Allah. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Well done! That is a profitable wealth, that is a profitable wealth. I have heard what you said, and I think you should distribute it among your relatives.” So Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I will do so. Thus, he distributed it among his relatives and the sons of his uncle.

Hadith 741
´Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri رضي الله عنه narrates that` the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم went to the Eidgah on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr.... This hadith has already passed (see the Book: Description of the Two Eids... Chapter: Going to the Eidgah without a pulpit...). In this narration, it is mentioned that when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم returned and went towards his house, Sayyidah Zainab, the wife of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud, came and began to seek permission to present herself before the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. It was said, "O Messenger of Allah! Zainab (has come)." The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked, "Which Zainab?" (because there were many women named Zainab). So it was said, "The wife of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud رضي الله عنهما." The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Alright, give her permission." She was given permission (when she came), she said, "O Messenger of Allah! Today you صلى الله عليه وسلم have ordered us (women) to give charity, and I have some jewelry. I wished to give it in charity, but Ibn Mas'ud said that he and his children are most deserving that I give it to them as charity." So the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Ibn Mas'ud has spoken the truth. Your husband and your children are most deserving that you give charity to them."
