Hadith 663
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to visit him accompanied by Abdur Rahman bin Awf, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, and Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them). When the Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived there, he found him lying on his bed at home. The Prophet (peace be upon him) inquired: "Has he passed away?" The people replied, "O Messenger of Allah! No." Then the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) (seeing the severity of his illness) began to weep. When the people saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) weeping, they also began to weep. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah does not punish for the tears of the eye, nor for the grief of the heart, but He punishes or shows mercy because of this," and he pointed to his tongue. "And indeed, the deceased is punished because of the wailing and lamentation of his relatives (if done unjustly) over him."
