Hadith 629
‘Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent me for some task of his. So I went and completed that task and returned, then I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and greeted him with salam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not reply to my salam, so my heart felt such grief as only Allah knows. Then I said to myself that perhaps the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is displeased with me because I delayed in coming to him. I again greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with salam, and he did not reply, so now my heart felt even more grief than the first time. Then I greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with salam again, so he replied to me and said: “The thing that prevented me from replying to your salam was that I was performing prayer.” And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was on his mount, and his face was not even towards the qiblah.’
