Hadith 472
Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him):
When we used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), in the sitting (tashahhud), we used to say: Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibreel, peace be upon Mika'il, and peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so. Then (once) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked towards us and said: "Allah Himself is As-Salam (the Source of Peace), so what is the need to send peace upon Him? So when any of you prays, let him say: 'All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are for Allah. O Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous slaves of Allah.' For when you say this, this supplication will reach every righteous slave of Allah, whether he is in the heavens or on the earth. (And) I bear witness that there is no true deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah."
