Hadith 425
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the prayer, he would raise both his hands up to the level of his shoulders, and when he said the takbeer for bowing (ruku‘), and when he raised his head from ruku‘, he would also raise both hands in the same way and say: “Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd.” But he would not do this (raising of hands) in the two prostrations (sujood). Nafi‘ narrates that when Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would enter the prayer, he would first say the opening takbeer (takbeer tahrimah) and simultaneously raise his hands. Similarly, when he would bow (ruku‘), and when he would say “Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah,” he would also raise both hands, and when he would rise from the first sitting (qa‘dah oola), he would also raise his hands. He attributed this action to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), (that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray in this manner).
