Hadith 423
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer the Tahajjud prayer in his chamber, and the wall of the chamber was low, so people saw the body of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and some people stood up to follow him in prayer. When morning came, they talked about it. Then on the second night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and some people again stood up to follow him in prayer that night as well. For two or three nights, people did the same, until when the next night came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed at home and did not come out to pray. In the morning, people mentioned this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I feared that (due to this regularity) the prayer (Tahajjud) might be made obligatory upon you.”
