Hadith 280
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the mosque was built of unbaked bricks, its roof was made of palm branches, and its pillars were of palm wood. Then, Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not make any addition to it, and Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made an addition to it and rebuilt it with unbaked bricks and palm branches, in accordance with the building during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and again set up wooden pillars. After that, Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) changed it and made many additions to it, and built its walls with decorated stones and plaster, and its roof with teakwood (a type of wood).
