Hadith 269
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that wealth was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Bahrain. He (peace be upon him) said: "Spread it out in the mosque." And that (wealth) was more than any wealth that had ever been brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) up to that time. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came for prayer and did not even look towards it. Then when he (peace be upon him) had finished the prayer, he came and sat by it, and whoever he saw, he would certainly give to him. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Give me (also), for I have paid my own ransom and the ransom of Aqil." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Take it." He took with both hands into his garment, then tried to lift it but could not. Then he said, "O Messenger of Allah! Order someone among them to help me lift it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "No." He said, "Then you yourself place it on me." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "No." So Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) dropped some of it and tried to lift it (and still could not), so he said, "O Messenger of Allah! Order someone among them to help me lift it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again said, "No." He said, "Then you yourself lift it and place it on me." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused. Then Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) dropped some more from it. After that, he lifted it and placed it on his shoulder and went away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), amazed at his greed, kept looking at him from behind until he disappeared from us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not leave from there until not a single dirham remained.
