Hadith 263
Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I agreed with my Lord in three matters. (Once) I said, "O Messenger of Allah! If only we could take the Maqam Ibrahim as a place of prayer." Then this verse was revealed: "And take the Maqam Ibrahim as a place of prayer." (Al-Baqarah: 125) And the verse of hijab was also revealed according to my wish. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! If only you would command your wives to observe veiling, because both righteous and wicked people speak to them." So the verse of hijab was revealed. And (once) the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered together out of excitement before him, so I said to them, "If he (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) divorces you, soon his Lord will give him better wives than you in your place." (At-Tahrim: 5) So this very verse was revealed.
