Hadith 248
Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a red leather tent, and I saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he brought water for ablution for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I saw the people that they began to take that ablution (water) hand to hand. Then whoever got some of it would rub it on his face, and whoever did not get any would take moisture from his companion’s hand. Then I saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he picked up a small spear and fixed it in the ground, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out wearing a red garment (lifting his cloak), and performed two rak‘ahs of prayer with the people towards the spear, and I saw the people and animals passing in front of the spear (here the spear or ‘anza was used as a sutrah).
