Hadith 236
Narrated Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): I went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on one of his journeys. One night, due to a need of mine, I came to him and found him praying. I had a cloth over my body, so I wrapped it tightly around myself and stood by his side and prayed as well. When he finished, he said: "O Jabir! What brings you at this hour of the night?" I told him my need. When I was done, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What was that wrapping of the cloth that I saw?" I said: It was a single cloth. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If the cloth is wide, then wrap yourself in it, and if it is tight, then make it an izar (lower garment or waist-wrapper)."

Hadith 237
Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that some people used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), tying their lower garments over their shoulders like children, and the women were told not to raise their heads until the men sat up straight. (Because the men had only one garment, there was a fear of exposure.)
