Hadith 178
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was praying near the Ka’bah, and Abu Jahl and some of his friends were sitting there. One of them said to another, “Who among you will bring the entrails (and intestines, etc.) of such-and-such tribe’s she-camel and place it on Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) back when he goes into prostration?” So the most wretched among them (‘Uqbah) got up, brought it, and waited until the Prophet (peace be upon him) went into prostration. (Immediately) he placed it between the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) shoulders, and I was watching this state but could do nothing. If only I had the power (why would I have witnessed this state)! Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then those people started laughing and fell over each other (out of laughter and joy), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was in prostration and could not raise his head until Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) came and removed it from the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) back. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his blessed head and supplicated against them, saying, “O Allah! Make destruction obligatory upon Quraysh.” He said this three times. This was very hard on them, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) had supplicated against them. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Those disbelievers knew that supplication is accepted in this city (Makkah). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned each one by name: “O Allah! Make (the destruction of) Abu Jahl obligatory upon Yourself, and ‘Utbah bin Rabi’ah, and Shaybah bin Rabi’ah, and Walid bin ‘Utbah, and Umayyah bin Khalaf, and ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu’it (obligatory upon Yourself).” (And he counted a seventh, but I do not remember his name.) By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I saw those people whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had named, lying (dead and unburied) in the well, that is, the well of Badr.
