Hadith 47
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that` one day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting before the people when suddenly a man came before him and asked (him), "What is faith?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "Faith is that you believe in Allah, and in His angels, and in His books, and in (the Hereafter) meeting Allah, and in Allah's messengers, and you have certainty in the Day of Judgment." (Then) that man asked, "What is Islam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "Islam is that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and you establish prayer, and pay the obligatory zakat, and fast in Ramadan." (Then) that man asked, "What is Ihsan?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "Ihsan is that you worship Allah (with such humility, devotion, and sincerity) as if you are seeing Him, and if you do not achieve this state that you see Him, then (at least) know that He surely sees you." Then that man asked, "When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) be?" In reply, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The one being asked does not know more about it than the questioner (rather, both are equally unaware)." "However, I will tell you its signs: (1) When a slave woman gives birth to her master, and (2) when the barefooted, naked, destitute shepherds compete in constructing tall buildings, then know that the Hour is near. And the knowledge of the Hour is among those five things which none knows except Allah." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited the entire verse: "Indeed, with Allah alone is the knowledge of the Hour..." (Luqman: 34). After that, the man left, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said (to the noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them): "Bring him back to me." (So the people went to bring him back) but found no one there. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That was Jibreel (Gabriel, peace be upon him); he came to teach the people their religion."
