Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions assumed the Ihram for Hajj, and none of them had a sacrificial animal except the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came from Yemen and he had a sacrificial animal with him. So he said, "I have assumed Ihram for the same thing for which the Prophet (peace be upon him) has assumed Ihram." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered the companions: "Change this Ihram to the Ihram of Umrah, perform Tawaf, cut your hair, and come out of Ihram, except for the one who has a sacrificial animal with him." Then the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "How can we go to Mina while semen will be dripping from our private parts?" This news reached the Prophet (peace be upon him), so he said: "If I had known earlier what I have come to know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me, and if I did not have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have come out of Ihram."
