It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to the Sabeel and asked for Zamzam water. So Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said (to his son), "O Fadl! Go to your mother and bring water for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Give me this water to drink." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! People put their hands in it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Give me to drink from this itself." So he (the Prophet) drank from it. Then he came to the place of Zamzam, and there people were drawing water from the well and giving it to others to drink. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If it were not that you would be overpowered (i.e., the task of giving water would be taken from your hands), then surely I would descend and, pointing to his shoulder, said, I would place the rope on my shoulder (and draw water myself), but I think that if I do so, others, out of obedience, would also do the same, and then you would be overpowered."
