Hadith 797

Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he (the Prophet) had brought the sacrificial animal with him, and all the companions had assumed Ihram for Hajj Mufrad. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "You people should perform Tawaf of the Ka'bah and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, then come out of Ihram and cut your hair, then remain out of Ihram until the eighth (of Dhul-Hijjah), then you should assume Ihram for Hajj, and the Ihram with which you have come, make it for Tamattu'." The companions said: Should we make it Tamattu' even though we have mentioned Hajj (in our intention)? So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do whatever I command you. If I had not brought the sacrificial animal, I would have done as I am commanding you, but now I cannot come out of Ihram until the sacrificial animal reaches its place of sacrifice."
