Hadith 794

´Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that (in the days of ignorance) people used to think that performing Umrah during the days of Hajj was worse than all the evils in the world, and they would consider the month of Muharram as the month of Safar, and would say that when the wound on the camel’s back (which often occurred due to the saddle being tied on it during the journey of Hajj) healed and the mark completely disappeared and Safar had passed, then at that time Umrah was permissible for the one who wished to perform Umrah. So when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the companions, having donned the Ihram for Hajj on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, arrived in Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered the companions to break this Ihram and instead assume Ihram for Umrah. This seemed bad to those people, and they said, “O Messenger of Allah! What should we do to come out of Ihram?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Everything.”
