Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I may soon not be able to join the prayer (in congregation), because so-and-so leads us in very lengthy prayers.” Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says, “I have never seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) more angry in giving advice than he was that day.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “O people! You are those who make others dislike (the religion) (see?), whoever leads the people in prayer should lighten it (i.e., make it short in every posture), because among the followers are the sick, the weak, and those who have needs.”
