Hadith 779

Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), “Show me the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the state when revelation is being sent down to him.” So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Alright.” Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in that state, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was at the place of Ji’ranah when a man came to him and said, “O Messenger of Allah! What is your command regarding a person who has put on the Ihram for ‘Umrah while he is scented with perfume?” So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent for a while. Then revelation began to descend upon him, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) signaled to Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him), so he came, and at that time a cloth was spread over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), providing shade over him. So Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) put his head under that cloth and saw that the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was red and he was snoring. Then that state was lifted from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said, “Where is the man who asked about ‘Umrah?” That man was brought, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Wash off the perfume that you have applied three times, and take off your cloak from your body, and perform the acts of ‘Umrah just as you do in Hajj.”
