Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and some other people to Ibn Sayyad, until they found him playing with some boys near the houses of Bani Maghala, and Ibn Sayyad was near the age of puberty at that time. He did not realize that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had come. Until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) struck him with his hand. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Ibn Sayyad: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Ibn Sayyad looked at him and said: I bear witness that you are the Messenger of the unlettered (people). After that, Ibn Sayyad said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): Do you bear witness that "I am the Messenger of Allah?" So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left him and said: "I believe in Allah and His Messengers." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "What do you see?" Ibn Sayyad replied: "A truthful one comes to me and a liar comes to me." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Your matter has been confused for you." After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "I have kept something in my heart about you, tell me what it is?" (The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had in mind the verse of Surah ad-Dukhan: (So watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke)). So Ibn Sayyad replied: "It is Dukh (smoke)." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You cannot go beyond your limit." Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, allow me to strike his neck. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If he is (the Dajjal), you will never be able to overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no benefit in killing him." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that after this (once again) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the garden in which Ibn Sayyad was, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wanted to hear something from Ibn Sayyad secretly before he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw him in a state that he was lying wrapped in a sheet, and some murmuring sound was coming from him. Then the mother of Ibn Sayyad saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) coming, although he was hiding among the date-palm trees, so she said to Ibn Sayyad: O Saf! (and Saf was the name of Ibn Sayyad), this is Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who has come. So Ibn Sayyad sat up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If this woman had left him in his state, i.e., had not informed him of my coming, the reality of the matter would have become clear."
