Hadith 661

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son who fell ill and passed away. Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) was not at home at the time; he had gone out for some work. When his wife (Umm Sulaym) saw that the child had died, she bathed him, shrouded him, and laid him in a corner of the house. When Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) came home at night, he asked, "How is the boy?" His wife (Umm Sulaym) replied, "He is at peace, and I hope he is resting comfortably." Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) thought she was telling the truth. So Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) spent the night with his wife. When morning came, he performed ghusl and was about to go out when Umm Sulaym informed him that the boy had passed away. Then he performed the morning prayer with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). After that, they informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of what had happened between them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope Allah will bless you both in this night." One of the Ansar (Sufyan says from me) said: "I saw nine sons of both of them, all of whom were reciters of the Qur'an."
