Hadith 652

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (Sayyidah Zainab, may Allah be pleased with her) sent a man to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying that my son is in the throes of death, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not come. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent back (this) message (saying): "Convey my greetings and say: (What should I do by coming?) Whatever Allah has given and whatever He has taken, all belongs to Him, and everything with Him has an appointed term, so you should be patient and hope for reward." Again, she sent a man to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and made him swear that he must come, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up, and with him were Sa'd bin 'Ubadah, Mu'adh bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Ka'b, Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them), and some other companions (may Allah be pleased with them). (When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived there) the child was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and (at that time it was his last moments) his soul was fluttering (Abu 'Uthman, the narrator, says) I think (Sayyiduna Usama, may Allah be pleased with him) said that he was fluttering as if it were a waterskin (being shaken). Then the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to flow with tears, so Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This is mercy which Allah has placed in the hearts of His servants, and Allah shows mercy only to those of His servants who are merciful."
