Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting on his camel and a man was holding its rein. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) addressed the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: "What day is this?" We remained silent until we thought that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would give it a name other than its (real) name. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?" We replied, "Yes." Then he asked: "What month is this?" Again, we remained silent until we thought that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would call it by another name. Then he said: "Is it not Dhul-Hijjah?" We replied, "Yes." (After this) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, your blood, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred among you as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours. Let those who are present convey this message to those who are absent, for perhaps the one who hears it may convey it to someone who will remember it better than the one who heard it."
