Hadith 552

The hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the man who entered the mosque while the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing and delivering the sermon. He requested: "Pray for rain." This has occurred several times before (see the Book: Statement about Jumu'ah... Chapter: Praying for rain during the Friday sermon). And in this narration, (Anas, may Allah be pleased with him) says: "By Allah! For a week we did not see the sun." Then, on the following Friday, a man entered (the mosque) through the same door, and at that time the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing and delivering the (Friday) sermon. That man stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! (People's) wealth has been ruined (due to the abundance of water) and the roads have been blocked, so pray to Allah to stop the rain." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then raised both his hands and said: "O Allah! Let the rain fall around us and not upon us. Let it fall on the hills, mountains, small hills, open fields, valleys, and the roots of trees." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: (As soon as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this) the rain stopped and we began to walk in the sunshine.
