Hadith 545

Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): He was asked about Qunoot, so he informed that indeed Qunoot used to be recited during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then he was asked: before bowing (ruku‘) or after bowing? He replied: before bowing. It was said that so-and-so person has reported from you that you said Qunoot was recited after bowing. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He is a liar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited Qunoot after bowing for only one month. I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent some people who were called Qurra’ (reciters of the Qur’an), about seventy in number, to the polytheists of Najd, not to those people (who killed them), and there was a treaty (of peace) between them and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), (but those people broke the treaty and killed those Qurra’ without any reason). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) supplicated against them for a month. Similarly, in another narration, it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited Qunoot for a month and supplicated against the tribes of Ra‘l and Dhakwaan.
