Hadith 249

Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, “What was the (Prophet’s) pulpit made of?” He replied, “There is no one among the people who knows this matter better than me (now). It was made of tamarisk wood from the forest of Ghaba. A slave woman’s servant made it for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When it was constructed and placed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on it, faced the Qiblah, and said the opening Takbir. The people stood behind him. Then he recited (Qur’an), bowed (in Ruku’), and the people bowed behind him. Then he raised his blessed head, then stepped back until he prostrated on the ground. Then he ascended the pulpit again, recited (Qur’an), bowed, then raised his head and stepped back until he prostrated on the ground. Thus, this was the story of the pulpit.”
