Hadith 223

Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), until when we reached Al-Baida or Dhat al-Jaish, my necklace broke (and fell). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed to look for it, and the people also stayed with him, and there was no water at that place (nor did the people have any water). Therefore, the people went to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Do you not see what (Umm al-Mu'mineen) Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and all the people stay, and they are at a waterless place, and they have no water with them. Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry with me and said whatever Allah willed him to say, and he began poking me in my side with his hand. The head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was on my thigh and he was sleeping, so due to the intensity of pain I could not even move. Then in the morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) got up, while he was at a place without water, so Allah, the Most Great and Exalted, revealed the verse of tayammum. So everyone performed tayammum, and on that day Sayyiduna Ibn Huzair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O family of Abu Bakr! This is not your first blessing. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The camel I was on was made to stand, and the necklace was found underneath it.
