Hadith 2213

`Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:` Some angels came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was resting. Some of the angels said, "He is sleeping," while others said, "His eyes sleep but his heart remains awake." Then they began to say, "There is an example for your companion (i.e., the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him); so present that example." Some angels said, "He is sleeping," while others said, "His eyes sleep but his heart remains awake." Then they said, "His example is like that of a man who built a house and prepared food (to invite people), then sent a caller (to the people). So whoever accepted the call of the caller will enter the house and eat the food, and whoever did not accept the call of the caller will neither enter the house nor eat the food." Then they said, "Explain its meaning." Some said, "He is sleeping," while others said, "His eyes sleep but his heart remains awake." Then they explained the example in this way: "The house is Paradise, and the one calling towards it is Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Whoever obeyed Muhammad (peace be upon him) has obeyed Allah, and whoever disobeyed Muhammad (peace be upon him) has in fact disobeyed Allah. And what is Muhammad (peace be upon him)? He is like the one who separates the good from the bad."
