It is narrated from Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he used to say: "If I (that is, Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) establish a prescribed punishment (hadd) on someone and he dies, then I will not feel any distress over it, except in the case of a drunkard; if he dies, then I will pay his blood money, because no specific prescribed punishment has been issued regarding him from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."
