Mukhtasar Bukhari

Lady Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: (During the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) we were forbidden to mourn for any deceased person for more than three days, except for a husband, for whom mourning was prescribed for four months and ten days. During this period, we would not apply kohl, nor wear perfume, nor wear colored clothes except for ‘Asb (a type of cloth whose thread is dyed before weaving). And after purification, when any of us who was menstruating became pure, we were allowed to use a little bit of costus perfume. And we were forbidden from accompanying funeral processions.
