Hadith 2118

It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever likes to meet Allah, Allah also likes to meet him; and whoever dislikes to meet Allah, Allah also dislikes to meet him.” Umm al-Mu’minin ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) or one of the other noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) submitted, “We also dislike death.” So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “That is not (the meaning); rather, the meaning is that when the time of death comes for a believer, he is given the glad tidings of Allah’s pleasure and honor. At that moment, nothing ahead of him (i.e., meeting Allah) seems better to him, so he likes to meet Allah and Allah likes to meet him. And when the time of death comes for a disbeliever, he is informed of Allah’s punishment and torment. So nothing ahead of him (i.e., punishment and torment) seems worse to him, and he dislikes to meet Allah and Allah dislikes to meet him.”
