Sayyiduna Abu Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) narrated two hadiths to me; I have witnessed the fulfillment of one, and I am awaiting the fulfillment of the other. The first hadith is: "Trustworthiness was first instilled in the depths of the hearts, then people learned about the command of trustworthiness from the Qur'an, and then they learned it from the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." And regarding the disappearance of trustworthiness, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Trustworthiness will soon be taken away, and it will happen that a man will sleep and trustworthiness will be removed from his heart. Its effect will remain like a faint mark. Then he will sleep again, and the remaining trustworthiness will also be removed, and its sign will be like a blister, as if you kick a burning coal with your foot and it swells up, and you see it raised, though there is nothing inside it. In the morning, people will get up and engage in buying and selling, but there will not be a trustworthy person among them. Trustworthy people will become so rare that people will say in amazement (that, brother) in such-and-such tribe, such-and-such person is so trustworthy, and about a person they will say how clever, wise, and brave he is, though there will not be even a mustard seed's worth of faith in his heart." Then he narrates that a time has passed over me when I had no hesitation in dealing with anyone. Islam would bring a Muslim to give me my due, and a Christian's ruler would compel him to give me my right. But nowadays, I do not deal or buy and sell with anyone except so-and-so and so-and-so.
