Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The name of Sayyidah Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) was previously "Barrah" (meaning pious and righteous). People said that she expresses her own purity, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) named her Zainab.
