Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the game that dies after being struck by the shaft of an arrow. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Eat that (animal) which is struck by the sharp edge of the arrow, and if it is struck by the broad side, it is like being beaten with sticks.” And I also asked about the game hunted by a dog. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(If the dog does not eat from it itself) and keeps it for you, then eat it (because) the catching of such a dog is like slaughtering. And if, along with your dog or dogs, you see another person’s dog as well, and you suspect that your dog, together with the other, has caught and killed the game, then do not eat it, because you recited ‘Bismillah’ when releasing your own dog, not for the other dogs.”
