Hadith 1887

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Once I was extremely hungry, so I met Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Recite to me such-and-such verse of the Qur'an." He went into his house and recited and explained that verse to me. I left from there, and had not gone far when, due to hunger, I fell face down. I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing by my head. He (peace be upon him) said, "O Abu Huraira!" I replied, "Here I am, O Messenger of Allah! And at your service." Then he (peace be upon him) took my hand, lifted me up, recognized my condition, and took me to his house. He (peace be upon him) ordered a bowl of milk to be brought for me. I drank from it, and he (peace be upon him) said, "O Abu Huraira! Drink more." I drank again. He said, "Drink more." I drank more until my stomach became swollen like a bowl. Then I met Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him about my hunger and my coming to him, and I said, "O Umar! Allah chose a person to relieve my hunger who was more deserving of it than you. By Allah! The verse I asked you to recite, I know it better than you." (Upon hearing this) Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! If I had taken you to my house and fed you at that time, it would have made me happier than receiving red camels."
