Hadith 184

Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “When you go to your bed, perform ablution as you do for prayer. Then lie down on your right side and then say: ‘O Allah! I have submitted my face to You, and entrusted my affairs to You, and I have taken You as my Protector and Refuge, hoping for You and fearing You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except with You. O Allah! I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.’ If you die that night, you will die upon faith. And say these words after you have said whatever else you wish to say (i.e., do not say anything after this).” Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I repeated these words before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and when I reached ‘I believe in Your Book which You have revealed,’ I said, ‘and Your Messenger.’ He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘No, but say: and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.’
