Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Envy is permitted only in two cases: one, for the person whom Allah has given the Qur'an and he recites it during the night and day, so his neighbor hears him and says, 'I wish I had been given what he has been given, so I would do as he does.' And the second, for the person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the way of truth, then someone (out of envy) says, 'I wish I had been given wealth like so-and-so, so I would spend as he does in the way of truth.'"
