Hadith 18

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "While a group of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) was sitting around him, he said: 'Pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will not associate anything with Allah, and you will not steal, and you will not commit adultery, and you will not kill your children, and you will not slander anyone by fabricating a falsehood which you invent between your hands and feet (i.e., deliberately), and you will not disobey (Allah and His Messenger) in any good matter. Whoever among you fulfills this pledge, his reward is with Allah. And whoever falls into any of these (evil) matters and is punished for it in this world, then that punishment will be an expiation for him. And whoever falls into any of these (evil) matters and Allah conceals it for him (in this world), then his case is with Allah: if He wills, He will pardon him, and if He wills, He will punish him.' (Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) We all pledged allegiance to him (peace and blessings be upon him) on these matters."
