Hadith 1769

Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that some polytheists who had committed many murders and had indulged excessively in adultery came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "What you say and what you call towards is very good. If you could tell us whether the sins we have committed will be forgiven (if we accept Islam)?" At that time, this verse was revealed: "And those who do not invoke any other god along with Allah, nor kill such a person as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit adultery." (Al-Furqan: 68) And this verse was also revealed: "(O Prophet! Say on My behalf) Say: O My servants who have wronged their souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah." (Az-Zumar: 53)
