Hadith 1751

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that cooked meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the meat of the foreleg was presented to him, which he liked. He (peace be upon him) held it with his teeth and began to eat it. Then he said: "I am the leader of all people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why? Because on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will gather all the former and latter people in one plain, and (that plain will be so level that) the caller will be able to make his voice heard by all of them, and the viewer will be able to see all of them. The sun will be very close. At that time, people will be in such unbearable distress and grief that they will not be able to bear it. At that time, people will say to each other: 'Look at the distress we are in! Find an intercessor who can intercede for you with your Lord.' Some will say: 'Go to Adam (peace be upon him).' So all will go to him and say: 'You are the father of all people (Abu al-Bashar), Allah created you with His blessed hands, breathed His spirit into you, and made the angels prostrate to you. Intercede for us! See what distress we are in and what our condition is.' Adam (peace be upon him) will say: 'Today my Lord is so angry as He has never been before and will never be so after. He forbade me from the fruit of the tree, but I (ate it and) disobeyed. Nafsī, nafsī, nafsī (I am concerned only for myself),' and then he will say: 'Go to someone else, go to Nuh.' Then they will go to Nuh (peace be upon him) and say: 'You were the first messenger sent to the earth, Allah named you "Abdan Shakuran" (a grateful servant), intercede for us, do you not see what distress we are in?' He will say: 'Today Allah is so angry as He has never been before and will never be so after. I was given one supplication that would be accepted, and I have already used it for my people (in the form of a supplication against them, which led to their destruction). Nafsī, nafsī (I am concerned only for myself),' and he will say: 'Go to someone else, go to Ibrahim (peace be upon him).' So all will go to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and say: 'You are Allah's prophet and His close friend (Khalil) among all the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord, do you not see how bad our condition is?' He will say: 'Today Allah is very angry, so angry as He has never been before and will never be so after. And I told three lies (then he will say): Nafsī, nafsī, nafsī (I am concerned only for myself), go to someone else besides me, go to Musa.' So they will go to Musa (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Musa! You are Allah's messenger, Allah gave you superiority and honor over all people through His message and speech. Intercede for us with your Lord, do you not see our (bad) condition?' He will also say: 'Today your Lord is very angry, so angry as He has never been before and will never be so after. (I committed one sin) I killed a person whom I was not commanded to kill.' Then he will say: Nafsī, nafsī, nafsī (I am concerned only for myself), go to someone else (do this: go to Isa (peace be upon him)). So the people will go to Isa (peace be upon him) and say: 'O Isa! You are Allah's messenger and His word which He cast to Maryam (peace be upon her), and His spirit, and you spoke to people in the cradle as a child. Intercede for us (so that Allah may save us from the horrors of this plain of resurrection), do you not see our (bad) condition?' Isa (peace be upon him) will say: 'Today my Lord is very angry, so angry as He has never been before and will never be so after.' Then he will not mention any sin of his, and he will also say: Nafsī, nafsī, nafsī (I am concerned only for myself), and will say: 'Go to someone else (in my opinion, go to Muhammad (peace be upon him)).' So the people will come to Muhammad and say: 'O Muhammad! You are Allah's messenger and the seal of the prophets, and indeed Allah has forgiven all your past and future sins. Intercede for us with Allah, do you not see what distress we are in?' (The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says:) 'As soon as I hear this, I will proceed (from the plain of resurrection) and come under the Throne and fall into prostration. Allah will inspire in my heart such praises and glorifications (which will come from my tongue) that He has not taught anyone before me. Then it will be said: O Muhammad! Raise your head and ask, you will be given; intercede, your intercession will be accepted. I will raise my head and say: O my Lord! Have mercy on my Ummah, O my Lord! Have mercy on my Ummah, O Lord! Have mercy on my Ummah. It will be said: O Muhammad! Admit into Paradise from your Ummah those who will have no reckoning, through the rightmost gate of Paradise, and they will also have the choice to enter through the other gates besides this one, like the rest of the people.' Then he (peace be upon him) said: 'The width of one gate of Paradise is like the distance between Mecca and Himyar (i.e., Sana'a, the capital of Yemen) or the distance between Mecca and Busra (in Syria).' (The narrator is in doubt.)
