It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that a dispute between two women was mentioned to him. They were sitting in a house or a small room, sewing a sock. Meanwhile, one of them went outside and a sewing needle (awl) pricked her palm. She made a claim against the other woman (who was with her). When this case was brought before Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If people were given (judgments) based on their claims, many people's blood and wealth would be lost." You should warn the other woman (the defendant) to fear Allah and recite this verse to her: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price..." When the people did this, (she became afraid and) confessed to the crime. Then Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The oath is upon the defendant."
