Hadith 1724

Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "He is Allah, Who has sent down to you the Book; in it are clear, firm verses—they are the foundation of the Book—and others are ambiguous. So those in whose hearts is a disease of hypocrisy follow that which is ambiguous from it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. But no one knows its true interpretation except Allah. And those firmly grounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in it; all is from our Lord.' And none take heed except those of understanding." Then he said: "When you see those who follow the ambiguous verses, then know that Allah has mentioned them (in the Qur'an), so beware of their company."
