Hadith 1712

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id bin Mu’alla (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was praying in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called me. I did not go immediately (rather, I finished my prayer and then went), and I said, “O Messenger of Allah! I was praying (that is why I was late).” So he (peace be upon him) said: “Did Allah not say: ‘Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.’” (__QUR_N__ Al-Anfal: 24) Then he said to me: “Before you leave the mosque, I will tell you a surah of the Qur’an which is greater (in reward and virtue) than all other surahs.” Then he took hold of my hand. When he intended to go out, I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Did you not say that you would tell me a surah which is greater than all the surahs of the Qur’an?” He (peace be upon him) said: “It is Surah (Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin), it has seven verses which are repeated in every rak’ah, and this is the Great Qur’an which has been given to me.”
