Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: This too is among the blessings of Allah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house and on my day, with his head resting between my chin and chest, and Allah joined my saliva with the saliva of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time of his passing. (This happened) when one day my brother Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came holding a miswak in his hand. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was leaning on me. I saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was looking at the miswak, and I knew how much he liked the miswak. I asked, “Shall I get this miswak for you?” So he (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his head, “Yes.” I took the miswak (from him) and gave it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but his illness was severe, so I said, “Shall I soften it for you?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his head, “Yes.” So I chewed it and softened it, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) brushed his teeth with it. In front of him (peace and blessings be upon him) was a water skin or a bowl of water (the narrator Umar is in doubt), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would dip his hands in the water and wipe his blessed face and say, “There is no god but Allah! Indeed, death has its agonies.” Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hand and said, “(O Allah) with the Highest Companion.” Until his blessed soul departed and his hand fell.
