Hadith 1676

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent him and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) towards Yemen, and appointed each of them as governor over a part of Yemen, and Yemen has two parts. Then he said: "Make things easy for the people, do not make things difficult, and give them glad tidings, do not make them averse to the religion." Both went to their respective duties. (The narrator Abu Burdah) says that whenever either of them, while touring his area, came near the other companion, he would definitely meet and greet him. Once, Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) went to his land, which was near his companion Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa riding his mule, (may Allah be pleased with him), who was sitting and many people were gathered around him. There he saw a man whose hands were tied to his neck. So Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "O Abdullah bin Qais! Who is this?" He replied, "This man became a disbeliever after accepting Islam." Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I will not get down from my mule until he is killed." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "He has been brought here for this very reason, so you get down." He said, "I will never get down before he is killed." Then Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered and had him killed. Then he got down and said, "O Abdullah! How do you recite the Qur'an?" He replied, "I recite a little at all times." Then he asked, "O Mu'adh! How do you recite the Qur'an?" He said, "I sleep at the beginning of the night, then after waking up as usual, I recite as much as Allah wills, and I consider my sleep to be rewarded equal to worship."
