Hadith 1667

Narrated Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the battle of Hunayn, he appointed Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander of the army and sent him towards Autas (where the tribe of Hawazin had gathered). Abu Amir confronted Duraid bin Simmah; Duraid was killed and Allah defeated his companions. He further said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had also sent me along with Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). Coincidentally, he was wounded on his knee; a man from the tribe of Jusham shot an arrow at him which lodged in his knee. I went to him and said, "O uncle! Who shot you with the arrow?" He indicated to me by gesture that so-and-so is my killer, the one who shot me. I set out with the intention and reached him. When he saw me, he ran away. I chased after him and said, "(O shameless one!) Aren't you ashamed? Why don't you stop?" Then he stopped. There were two sword strikes between me and him, then I killed him. Then I came back and said to Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), "Allah has destroyed your killer." He said, "Now pull out this arrow." I pulled out the arrow and water started flowing from the wound. Then he said, "O son of my brother! Convey my greetings to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him to seek forgiveness for Abu Amir." Then Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as his deputy over the people. After a short while, he was martyred. When I returned from the battle, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was lying on a bed made of palm fibers, and the marks of the fibers were visible on his blessed side. I related to him the situation of myself and Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), and said that Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) had requested you to pray for his forgiveness. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, performed ablution, then raised his hands and prayed: "O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him)." He raised his hands so much that I saw the whiteness of his armpits. Then he prayed: "O Allah! Raise Abu Amir's rank above many of Your creation on the Day of Resurrection." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for my forgiveness as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Forgive Abdullah bin Qais (Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him) his sins and admit him to a good place (in Paradise) on the Day of Resurrection."
